Celebrating Earth Week, Week After Week at Heffner
Celebrating Earth Week, Week After Week at Heffner
Family comes in all shapes and sizes.
First and foremost, there’s your immediate family. Then, you’re part of the family here at Heffner Toyota. In addition to that, there’s also the one that includes all who call this wonderful planet of ours home.
It was truly inspiring last week to witness the remarkable efforts of people from around our community, and all around the globe for that matter, as they took part in both #EarthDay and #EarthWeek celebrations. Social Feeds were filled with selfless acts of people helping to protect and preserve our planet so that one day, we can pass it on to our families of future generations.
At Heffner Toyota, a family owned and operated dealership since 1960, we were proud to get involved as well. However, not just for the day or week, we put an emphasis on green, week after week, year round.
In August of 2014, solar panels were installed on the rooftops of Heffner Toyota and surrounding buildings in an effort to produce more green energy for the grid. In the last two years alone (2016 & 2017), drawing from four separate systems, we’ve generated 1,018 megawatt hours of green energy from the sun. That roughly equals enough electricity to power approximately 335,940 homes for one continuous hour.
In late 2016, the LED conversion began throughout our buildings on the Heffner property. Now, almost a year and a half later, Heffner Toyota has swapped 90% of the bulbs with the completion scheduled for later this year. The results have been truly outstanding, as we’ve seen a minimum 50% reduction to our overall consumption compared to previous use.
Sticking with bulbs, Heffner Toyota offers our guests and our community in general, a responsible way to dispose of used incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent bulbs and batteries. You’ll find a drop-off container inside the Toyota building near Morning Glory Café and Catering. There’s no cost to you, simply collect them at home and drop them off at Heffner on you next visit.
Our dealership water fountain, located in the same area as the battery and bulb drop-off, is equipped with a rapid refill station for reusable water bottles. As of this writing, we’ve helped to eliminate waste from 4,377 plastic water bottles. The amount of plastic waste ending up in our landfill sites is startling; adopting these types of fountains in businesses and schools goes a long way to bucking that trend.
Then, shifting to Heffner’s parent brand, Toyota has committed to eliminating CO2 emissions by 2050 through eco-advanced vehicles. Models like the Prius Prime are one of Toyota’s approaches to closing the gap and reaching that goal. The Prius Prime is Toyota’s most advanced hybrid ever built, with the highest total driving range and shortest charging time. The 2017 model was the recipient of the World Green Car award at the 2017 New York International Auto Show. In total, Toyota has 7 hybrid models (Prius c, Prius, Prius v, Prius Prime, Camry Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and Highlander Hybrid) currently in the lineup.
The family at Heffner has taken many steps towards creating a greener tomorrow for all families, now and in the future. However, it’s the responsibility of us all to continue driving towards that goal. You can’t change the world on your own, but when we work together as a united family, we can accomplish great and even greener goals.
